<strong>SEEU</strong> <strong>Review</strong> Volume 6, No. 2, 2010FindingsThe questionnaire was divided in two parts and was purposely designedto measure the hypothesis of lack of students’ academic outcomes prior tocoming to SEE-<strong>University</strong> (after the completion of high school) and howdoes the Language Center contribute to enhancing student academicoutcomes once they have taken English classes at the Language Center.The following set of questions concerns students’ academic skills in theirprevious education (primary and secondary). To question number one “Inprimary and high school I was not taught how to write a well organizedparagraph” 41% of answered with strongly agree and agree, 22% wereneutral and 37% disagreed with the same.To the question “In primary and high school I was not taught how towrite an essay” 32% agreed with the statement, 23% were neutral and 45%were against. Question number three, “In primary and high I was not taughthow to prepare and deliver a presentation” 40% agreed, 25% were neutraland 36% were against. And, to the following statement “In primary andsecondary education I was never introduced to debate for the purpose oflanguage learning” 53% agreed, 21% neutral and 26% disagreed.The second part of the questionnaire focuses on the students’ perceptionon academic skills they receive at the Language Center as soon as theyundertake and successfully complete their courses in English Language. Tothe question “I learned the rules of debate and how to debate in my Englishclasses at SEE-<strong>University</strong>” 73% of the students agreed, 13% were neutraland 14% disagreed with the same. We see a similar trend in the followingquestion “In my English classes at SEE-<strong>University</strong> I successfully learnedhow to write a well organized paragraph” 77% of the students agreed, 11%were neutral and 12% disagreed.In addition, the question regarding students’ skills in essay writing “Ilearned how to write an essay in my English classes at SEE-<strong>University</strong>” 65%agreed, 17% were neutral and 18% disagreed. The next question “In myEnglish classes at SEE-<strong>University</strong> I prepared and delivered a presentation85% agreed, 4% were neutral and 11% disagreed.For question number nine “In high school I never had a chance to read abook or a short story in my English classes” 36% agreed, 16% were neutraland 48% disagreed with the same.
