This is whyMohammed said, “The believer sees with theLight of God.” When someone sees with God’sLight, they see all things, the first and last, the visibleand invisible, for how can anything be hiddenfrom God’s Light? If anything is hidden, then thatis not God’s Light. Therefore this is revelation,whether they call it revelation or not.When Uthman became caliph, he stepped upinto the pulpit. The people waited to see what hewould say. He was silent and said nothing. Helooked steadily at the people, and a state of ecstasydescended upon them so that they were unableto move, and could not tell where they were. Notby a hundred preachings and sermons could suchan excellent state have been shown to them.Precious lessons were imparted and secretsrevealed. Until the very end, he only looked atthem like this, not saying a word. Then, justbefore leaving the pulpit, he said, “It is better for
