discourse 67“He created Adam in His likeness.”Everyone is seeking the manifestation of God.For example, there are many veiled women whouncover their faces to try the object of their desire,like you try a razor. There are lovers who say totheir beloved, “I have not slept and I have noteaten. I have become like this and that withoutyou.” What they mean is, “You are seeking amanifestation of God. I am the manifestation youcan vaunt your belovedness upon.” In the sameway, all scholars and learned people are seekingto manifest God’s desire, “I was a hidden treasure,and I desired to be known.”“He created Adam in His likeness,” meaningin the likeness of God’s laws. Divine law is manifestin all creation, because all things are the shadowof God, and the shadow is like the person. Ifthe five fingers spread out, the shadow alsospreads out. If the body bows, the shadow alsobows. If it stretches out, the shadow also stretch-
FIHI MA FIHI V 423es out. Therefore, all people seek a Beloved, forthey all desire to be lovers of God, enemies to Hisenemies, and friends to His friends. All these arethe rules and attributes of God that appear in theshadow.To sum up, this shadow world is unaware ofwho we really are, yet we are aware. But in comparisonto God’s knowledge, this awareness ofours is unawareness. Not everything in a personshows in their shadow, only certain things. So notall the attributes of God show in this shadowworld, only some of them, for“You have been given of knowledge nothingExcept a little.”
