discourse 65Those who are living in Hell are happier therethan they would be in this world, for in Hell theirawareness turns to God, while in this world theyforget. Nothing is sweeter than the awareness ofGod. Therefore, their desire to return to thisworld is to work and carry out deeds so that theycan witness the manifestation of Divine grace, notbecause this world is a happier place than Hell.Hypocrites are consigned to the lowest place inHell, because they were shown the faith but theirunbelief was stronger. They did nothing with thegift they were given. Their punishment is moresevere so they can become aware of God. To theunbelievers, faith never came. Their unbelief isnot as strong, and so they become aware throughless punishment. Between pants with dust uponthem, and a carpet with dust, the trousers onlyneed one person to shake them a little to becomeclean, while it takes four people shaking the rugviolently to rid the carpet of its dust.
FIHI MA FIHI V 417The inhabitants of Hell cry:“Pour upon us water, or of thatGod has provided you…”God forbids their desire for food or drink,therefore this saying means, “Pour upon us fromwhat you have found, and shines upon you.”The Koran is like a bride who does not showher face to you even when you draw aside the veil.The fact that you have examined her, and yet havenot attained happiness or mystical unveiling, is asign that your act of trying to remove her veil hasitself repulsed her, so that she appears to you asugly. She says, “I am no beautiful bride.” TheKoran shows itself in whatever form it pleases.But if you do not try drawing aside the veil, andseek only the Koran’s good pleasure, watering itsfields, attending it from afar, working upon whateverpleases it best, then it will show you its facewithout any effort at drawing aside the veil.Seek the people of God, for God does notspeak to every one, just as the kings of this worlddo not speak to every weaver. They have appointedviziers and deputies to show the way to theking. God has also chosen certain servants, so
