But ifthe moth dashed itself against the light <strong>of</strong> the candleand the moth were not consumed, that indeedcould not be a candle.Therefore, the human being who can do withoutGod, lacking even the desire, that is nohuman being at all. But if they are able to comprehendGod, that indeed could not be God. So,the true lover is never free from striving, theyrevolve restlessly and ceaselessly around the light<strong>of</strong> God. And God consumes them, making themnothing, destroying the veil <strong>of</strong> their reason.
