20,000students participated.Safe road to schoolIn conjunction with its constructionprojects in Poland, <strong>Skanska</strong>made a commitment to improvingpublic awareness of traffic rulesand safety matters by runninga campaign targeted to schoolchildren. In the “Safe road toschool” campaign, <strong>Skanska</strong>employees met with 20,000 studentsin 150 schools throughoutPoland and taught them abouttraffic safety, safety at constructionsites and how to providefirst aid. <strong>Skanska</strong> distributed45,000 reflective armbands aswell as brochures and bookmarkswith first aid instructions. Theseactivities took place in closecooperation with local police andteachers.During the first year of operation, thenumber of accidents decreased by48%Autopista CentralThe Autopista Central is a new highwaythrough Santiago, Chile, where <strong>Skanska</strong>’sprioritized safety and improvements in nearbyareas in order to reduce the environmentalimpact of the project. Promoting better roadsafety has been an important element of<strong>Skanska</strong>’s contribution to the community.During the first year of operation, the numberof accidents along the route decreased by48 percent, among other things thanksto campaigns in 140 nearby schools thatreached 140,000 students.
