Since1980, a total of 40 million ounces of gold have been defined in <strong>the</strong> gold belt, (Muntean andEinaudi, 2000).The <strong>Maricunga</strong> <strong>Gold</strong> Belt hosts numerous mineral deposits of economic interest including:• La Coipa, an epi<strong>the</strong>rmal gold-silver mine owned and operated by <strong>Kinross</strong>• Marte-Lobo, a gold porphyry deposit that was partially developed by TeckCorporation and,• Cerro Casale, a large (1.035 billion tonnes), undeveloped, porphyry copper-golddeposit that is a joint venture between Barrick <strong>Gold</strong> (51%) and <strong>Kinross</strong> (49%).No in<strong>for</strong>mation from adjacent properties has been used in <strong>the</strong> exploration program or in <strong>the</strong>estimation of <strong>the</strong> mineral resource.58
