The rated voltage of the circuit breaker should beof standard rating chosen so as to be at least equal to the highest voltage of the system atthe point where the circuit breaker is to be installed. The operating voltage and the powerfrequency recovery voltage should not exceed the rated maximum values because thismaximum is upper limit <strong>for</strong> continuous operation.It is however considered that operation at altitude above 1000 meters should be givenspecial considerations and certification from manufacturer be obtained because ofpossible influence of altitude on interrupting capacity.In case of generator circuit breakers the rated maximum should be equal to the maximumoperating voltage of the generator, which is usually equal to 1.05 times rated voltage.4-7
