Steps involved in applying method are as follows:1. Calculate E/X 1 for 3 phase faults where X 1 = positive sequencePositive sequence X 1 is assumed equal to negative sequence X 2 and obtained fromdesign date or test.2. Calculate ground fault current 3E/2 X 1 + X 0X 0 = zero sequence reactance obtained from design date or testE = phase to neutral voltage3. If phase fault current does not exceed 80% of 100% symmetrical circuit breakerinterrupting capacity or 70% ground fault current then the circuit breaker selection isadequate.More exact procedure of calculation with adjustment for AC and DC decrements shouldbe used if the criteria is not fulfilled. In this method multiplying factors to initial value ofsymmetrical short circuit current are given in the factor of curves for 2 cycle to 8 cycle.8.5 Simplified MethodBreakers to include effect of ac and dc components for the following types of faults.i) Three phase faultii) Line-to-ground faultiii) Three phase to ground fault8.6 Characteristics specified for 72.5 kV Mukerian Stage II (2 x 10 MW) in Punjab and 36kV Sikasar HE Project (Chattisgarh 2 x 3.5 MW) are given in table 3.6.Table 3.6S.
