As the work duration would be limited and impacts temporary, in accordance with the ICNG, anoise quantitative assessment and assessment of sleep disturbance impacts were not required.9.4.2 Work components 3 and 4These work components would involve removal of Convention Centre, Paddy’s Markets andGaleries Victoria stations, and removal of the maintenance facility. For these works, the ICNGquantitative assessment method was used as the works have the potential to impact onsurrounding receivers and land uses for more than three weeks.The equipment anticipated to be used for these works is listed in Table 9.3 with thecorresponding sound power level. Unless otherwise stated, noise levels have been obtainedfrom the ‘Construction Noise Strategy Rail Projects’ (Transport for NSW 2012) and AS2436 –2010 ‘Guide to noise and vibration control on construction, demolition and maintenance sites’.Other equipment may be used, however it is anticipated that they would produce similar noiseemissions.Noise modelling was undertaken using the Computer Aided Noise Abatement (CadnaA) model.CadnaA is a computer program for the calculation, assessment and prognosis of noiseexposure. The magnitude of potential off-site noise impacts would depend on a number offactors:• the intensity of activities• the location of activities• the type of equipment used• the background noise levels• intervening terrain and structures• the prevailing weather conditions.During any given period, the equipment would operate at maximum sound power levels for onlyshort times. At other times, the equipment may produce lower sound levels while carrying outactivities not requiring full power or when not in use. It is highly unlikely that all equipment wouldbe operating at their maximum sound power levels at any one time, and certain types ofequipment would be used for only brief periods during the works.82 | GHD | Transport for NSW - Monorail Removal Project REF
