Community and stakeholderconsultationThis section summarises the community and stakeholder consultation undertaken as an input todevelopment <strong>of</strong> the proposal and the <strong>REF</strong>. Consultation for the proposal is guided by theproposal Community and Stakeholder Engagement Strategy which is described in this section.6.1 Consultation objectives and approachConsultation activities during the <strong>REF</strong> preparation and display phases aim to encouragestakeholder and community involvement in the proposal. The team’s approach to consultation isbased on providing best practice consultation consistent with Transport for NSW’s CommunityEngagement Policy. The objectives <strong>of</strong> consultation for the proposal are to:• ensure that a diverse range <strong>of</strong> the local community and stakeholders are informed aboutthe proposal and given the opportunity to provide feedback• provide stakeholders with an opportunity to ask questions and identify areas <strong>of</strong> concern• ensure that concerns and issues raised by the community and key stakeholders areconsidered during the <strong>REF</strong> process• implement a planned approach to community and stakeholder communications• effectively and proactively identify and manage local issues.6.1.1 Consultation strategyCommunity and stakeholder consultation for the proposal is guided by the Community andStakeholder Engagement Strategy. This strategy was developed in conjunction with Transportfor NSW. The strategy:• provides background information about the proposal• identifies the community and key stakeholders with the potential to be affected by theproposal• identifies the nature and extent <strong>of</strong> stakeholder issues/concerns and relevant strategies tomanage these proactively• defines key messages, and identifies the communication tools and techniques todisseminate information and provide opportunities for feedback• documents the policies and procedures implemented to record and respond to enquiries,complaints, and issues• identifies and allocates roles and responsibilities• provides an overview <strong>of</strong> how the effectiveness <strong>of</strong> the strategy will be evaluated.The consultation strategy provides for consultation to be undertaken in two stages:• during <strong>REF</strong> preparation• in conjunction with public display <strong>of</strong> the <strong>REF</strong>.An overview <strong>of</strong> the activities proposed for each stage <strong>of</strong> consultation is provided in the followingsections.GHD | Transport for NSW - <strong>Monorail</strong> <strong>Removal</strong> <strong>Project</strong> <strong>REF</strong> | 45
