Resource requirementsFigure 5.2 describes the key tasks that would comprise phase 2, together with an indication ofthe equipment and labour requirements. All resources are exclusive of establishment andmaintenance of the traffic management that would be required. The table describes theresources envisaged for a single work face (that is, a single pair of pedestals). As a safety measure, there would be no less than two labourers on site at any given time. Themethodology allows for the use of 13 tonne body trucks and a bobcat for removal works at eachpedestal to perform the load and removal process.Table 5.2 Resource requirements for phase 2Step Description Plant/equipment LabourDay 11 Prepare alternative pedestrian access, temporaryfencing, demarcation & any associated safetymeasures not already addressed in previous nightworks.2 Demolish pedestals with jackhammer, cutreinforcing steel and remove stub column.3 Load and haul out concrete and steel wastestockpile.Day 24 Apply corrosion protection to starter bars stubs attop of pile cap.5 Backfill with DGB20 sub-base and compact.6 Apply pavement surface treatment in accordancewith the recommendation of Waterman StructuralReport (2 October 2012)utility truckhand toolsjackhammeroxy-acetylene kit (incl.bottles)13 ton body truck/sbobcatsweeperutility truckcorrosion protectionpaintbobcatutedelivery truckplate compactor2 x work crews4 x jack-hammeroperatorsboilermakerbobcatoperatortruck driver/ssweeperoperatorwork crewtruck driverAreas requiring special attentionThe following areas would require special attention in phase 2:• Special types of pedestals – Some pedestals have additional features that may requireadditional processes to the demolition. An example of this is the granite capping found inthe pedestals located along Market Street. It is not anticipated that the demolition of thespecial pedestals would result in significant changes to the basic methodology, rather thatthe demolition contractor is aware of the different types for removal.• Removal of the pile caps – In some cases, subject to the requirements of City of Sydneyand Transport for NSW, the pile caps or sections of the pile caps may also need to beremoved. Detailed work plans and traffic management measures would be developed forthese works, although it is not anticipated that these works would result in significantchanges to the methodology for phase 2.5.4 Work component 3 - Removal of the maintenance facilityand Convention Centre and Paddy’s Markets stationsThis work component would involve four phases, described in the following section:• Phase 1 – Preparation• Phase 2 – Initial workGHD | Transport for NSW - Monorail Removal Project REF | 31
