• power and gas mains. The Monorail is connected to and/or interfaces with a variety of other infrastructure, via thelocation of columns or stations. It also passes over and under various transport infrastructure, such as the Western Distributor, Pyrmont Bridge and Sydney Light Rail. Some services areattached to the Monorail infrastructure. The proposal would have the potential to impact on other infrastructure as a result of theremoval of structures and the limited surface excavation. While there may be some short termdisruptions while work is being undertaken, the methodology for the proposal is beingdeveloped specifically to ensure that there is minimal physical impact on adjoining or adjacentinfrastructure. For example, it is proposed to remove the columns at surface level, rather thanexcavate the entire sub-structures. This would minimise the potential for impacts to the roadnetwork and underground infrastructure.Impacts would be minimised by ensuring that investigations are undertaken by the contractor tolocate all underground services in the vicinity of the proposal site, so that the work methods takeinto account the presence of this infrastructure. Consultation with service providers would alsobe undertaken to minimise the potential for impacts.13.5.2 Mitigation measuresThe following mitigation measures would be implemented to minimise impacts on infrastructureand services:• Service searches and consultation with service providers would be undertaken by thecontractor prior to commencing works to accurately locate services.• Measures to minimise impacts to services would be developed in consultation withservice providers, including:– marking services on plans and avoiding undertaking works in the vicinity of theseservices– service relocation– temporary connections.• Works planning would take into consideration the potential for impacts on allinfrastructure and services. Work methods would be developed in consultation withservice providers, and works would be scheduled to minimise the potential for impacts toor on the use of infrastructure and services.• Any impacts to infrastructure and services would be made good by the contractor at thecompletion of works.• Work being undertaken on or around infrastructure would be clearly signposted andappropriately fenced.13.6 Flora and fauna13.6.1 Impact assessmentVegetation in the study area is limited to street trees located along various sections of the route, including Market Street and Darling Drive (refer section 10). The study area is a highly modifiedurban environment and is considered to be of negligible ecological significance. It is anticipatedthat any fauna inhabiting the area would be common to urban environments and would notinclude threatened species.GHD | Transport for NSW - Monorail Removal Project REF | 127
