Figure 12.1The waste management hierarchy12.3.2 Materials and wasteWaste generationAs the proposal involves removing a significant piece <strong>of</strong> transport infrastructure that extends forapproximately 3.6 kilometres and includes a number <strong>of</strong> built structures, it would result in thegeneration <strong>of</strong> large quantities <strong>of</strong> waste. Waste generated by the proposal would include:• structural steel from removal <strong>of</strong> track infrastructure, including beam and columns, as wellas steel associated with stations• concrete from removal <strong>of</strong> the footing pads and stations• electrical cabling from removal <strong>of</strong> wiring• industrial waste such as lubricating oils, hydraulic fluids and cleaning agents• transformers and associated infrastructure from substation decommissioning.The estimated quantities <strong>of</strong> the main waste types that would be generated are provided in Table12.2.
