TARGET IDENTIFICATIONTarget identification consists of classifying a potential target by type, describing it bynomenclature, and discriminating it as either friend or foe. For example, the gunner mightidentify a potential target by classifying it as a tank, describing it as a T-55, anddiscriminating it as a foe.a. Classification. In classifying a target, the crew identifies a target by vehicle type(truck, tank, APC). Soldiers can quickly scan the target’s key recognition features, thenclassify it accordingly. For example, the gunner classifies a target as a tank because of thelow silhouette, large gun tube, and tracks.6-23
