FM 3-22.16-16. KINEMATIC LEADWhen the 25-mm is selected, the Bradley A3 applies lead automatically, based on thetarget's range, speed, and the rate of input into the handstation. This lead automaticallyadjusts the offset between the line of sight and line of fire. This allows the gunner to keephis reticle center mass of target through the engagement.a. Using kinematic lead eliminates the need for manual target lead. To activatekinematic lead, the gunner ranges the target using ELRF, or manually induces rangewhile depressing the handstation's palm switches. He keeps the palm switches depressedand after he induces range, he applies a rate command by tracking the target with hishandstation.b. For all 25-mm engagements, the gunner must keep the reticle center mass of thetarget. BOT techniques apply only if the initial three-round burst fails to hit the target. Ifthis happens, he drops palms, re-lases, and fires.c. To deactivate kinematic lead, the gunner releases the palm switches. This returnsthe system to normal operation. However, re-lasing the target reactivates kinematic lead.d. Based on the range and speed of the target, the Bradley A3 system offsets the lineof fire relative to the IBAS line of sight. BRADLEY A3 25-MM POINT TARGETSCrewmembers will fire three- to five-round bursts until they destroy the target. They usesensing rounds only with the auxiliary sight or if the ELRF fails.6-18. FAILURE OF EYE-SAFE LASER RANGE FINDERTo operate the ELRF A3 in degraded mode, such as when the ELRF fails, crewmembersfirst manually select the range. Next, they apply BOT, as previously discussed.
