TEFI TCA – id. code 3919make German officials, employees and managers in enterprisesbetter understand the cultural backgrounds of migrants.To give a few examples:The normal procedure of the labour market agency was to financestandard training courses for unemployed to prepare them for the jobmarket. Very often these standard courses did not meet theunemployed person’s interests, abilities, qualifications. One of thetraining institutions (VHS) developed a more flexible training course,especially for unemployed migrants in such a way, that participantshave the opportunity to take part in training modules which meettheir individual training needs and supplement their deficits in specialfields (e.g. language, practice etc).Another training institution (KVHS in Peine) developed a trainingcourse for intercultural learning. Participants were especiallyemployees and managers in German institutions which are often incontact with migrants, when they ask for permission to stay inGermany or when they look for jobs or training courses. In additioncourses for intercultural learning were held with trainers forvocational training in the local chemical industry.The Braunschweig community’s service agency for women trainsmigrant women for jobs in different service branches, such as healthand care services, translation services in medical and social fields andchild care.Another branch of the local administration is cooperating with schoolsand enterprises to prepare female migrant pupils to find a job afterhaving finished their school.In cooperation with the Turkish migrant’s association (BTEU) theBraunschweig institution for vocational training (ABW) is motivatingFinal report 280
