1. INTRODUCTION
STAR Programme is meant to help students who are academically weak and have low
self esteem and self-confidence. This intervention programme will serve the need to
uplift their level of self-esteem and self-confidence and thus, achieve excellence in
character and academic performance. It is our fervent hope that these students will
become good responsible citizens of our nation in due course.
2. OBJECTIVE
The main objectives of the programme are to instil in students:-
o The urge and need to succeed and excel academically and in life.
o Self respect and confidence.
o The need and desire to study.
o Effective studying techniques.
o Positive attitude and a sense of responsibility.
o To achieve academic and character excellence.
For the nation
• A change of mindset and attitude to produce positive and responsible
youths which in turn would contribute to the eradication of crime and
other socially unacceptable activities/behaviour.
• Grooming the youths of today to be leaders of tomorrow.
3. IMPLEMENTATION
The plan is to have a continuous STAR Programme, at least one in each state. States to
identify schools which would need the programme and get the approval from the
school, to allow us to conduct the STAR programme. STAR programme is packaged
as 6 month programme, as such it will be ideal to start the programme either in March
or April of each year. STAR Facilitators training will be provided upon request from
each state.
4. EXPECTED OUTCOME
We are targeting to have eight schools throughout the nation with STAR Programme. It
is intended that students involved in this programme will obtain good results in
examinations and at the same time, earn the respect of parents, teachers and fellow
students.
