SAI-CARE
An Offering for Humanity and Nation Building
A 20 year old 3 rd year medical student was suffering from lower abdominal distention
and pain. Due to her family’s financial constraints, surgery assistance was extended
to her. A cystectomy was done, with refashioning of the fimbrial end of the fallopian
tube and a tubal patency test was done, in view of future fertility. The doctor could
hear her call out to Swami while she was recovering from anesthesia, asking him not
to go. She was discharged on the 3 rd day. The diagnosis was a large fimbrial cyst.
A 23 years old Malay single mother, who has no family support, came to our labour
room in active phase of labour. Few hours later we had to do caesarean section on
her because of foetal distress. Mother and baby are well. Baby is adopted by a
childless couple and the mother was sent back to the home.
A Malay house wife, whose husband is a manual labourer, was in her 4 th pregnancy
at 38 weeks. Admitted because of high blood pressure and Bronchial asthma. We
offered assistance because of domestic problems and due to financial constraints.
We operated her because of big baby. She delivered a 3.9 kg baby. Both mother
and baby are well now.
A 40 year old Myanmar lady at 38 weeks pregnant came in with fibroid complicating
pregnancy, hypertension and Breech presentation. She was operated on because of
breech presentation and the above problems. She is not working and husband’s
income is less than RM 600.
The Surgery project under SaiCare is another success story for our Sai organization, for
having made valuable connections with the Ministry of Health through the Obstetric
and Gynaecology Department of Hospital Kuala Lumpur. This is the biggest tertiary
hospital which receives referrals from all over Malaysia. They acknowledged
the Saicare surgery project done in their respective wards by giving an appreciation
ceremony to our Sai Council members on May 6th. Several members from our
organization including brothers and sisters came for this function, attended by a total
of 132 people. The unique feature of this event was the respect and the acceptance
of our Saicare project by the multiracial group present. This showed the true unity in
the midst of diversity. They were very impressed with our Saicare surgery project. Two
patients spoke and thanked the Sai Council for the assistance. The hospital
authorities pledged continued support in the following areas:
1. Complete support to maternal and child health service programme of our
organization.
2. Agreed to send hospital staff in batches for tree planting sessions.
3. Medical Camps
4.Community integrated programmes to help the needy women in the society
5. They requested us to form an emotional support group to help the cancer patients
in the gynaecology ward.
