SAI-CARE An Offering for Humanity and Nation Building E. EnvironCare Projects 1. Tree Planting The objective of this project is to instill reverence to Mother Nature and raise Environmental Awareness/Consciousness in particular amongst children, their parents and teachers of the Sai family in Malaysia. To do this a target has been set to plant and protect 85,000 trees in Malaysia. Tree planting and its protection will benefit not only humans but the planet earth. This is because trees are oxygen filters (they give us oxygen, consumes carbon dioxide and cleans the air in the process), shelter and food providers to humans as well as animals and can influence climate. Planting trees can help to combat climate change and reduce the effects of natural disasters. These are just some of the major benefits of tree planting and protection. Participants in this project will learn to appreciate mother nature and spiritualise their contribution towards making the earth a more liveable place.
SAI-CARE An Offering for Humanity and Nation Building 4. Origins of SAICare In 2005 the Sathya Sai Central Council of Malaysia drafted a Road Map for the Sai Organisation of Malaysia. The purpose of this Road Map was to guide the members of the organisation to focus on the areas of Service and Spiritual need , and carry out activities in line with this. This would also offer opportunities for the devotees to serve the poor, sick, needy and underprivileged, while at the same time moving towards greater spiritual heights in line with Bhagavan’s Mission for devotees to realise their inner divinity. In Nov 2006, the Executive Council of the Sathya Sai Baba Central Council deliberated a review of the Road Map. It was decided that a review was necessary, to assess the achievements thus far, and also to identify required programmes (strategies/initiatives), the implementation action plan and the desired results with set measurable goals. After this continual evaluation, identification of gaps and review, the programmes would be carried out. The need for clear communication, inspiration and education for Centre leaders was also stressed, as a means of leadership development. This led to many intense efforts, led by dedicated leaders, to evaluate weaknesses and problems, issues on integration between wings and the need to spiritualise all activities, in order to enable devotees to be more spiritually minded. After looking at these, 4 Key Focus areas were identified, and a workshop for effective leadership for Sai Office bearers was held. The task force set up for this purpose worked hard over the next few months, and in August 2008, a retreat for Sai office bearers was held , in which participants enthusiastically expressed full support for the SAI Care programme to be implemented over the next two years as our offering for Humanity and Nation Building in conjunction with Bhagawan Baba’s 85 th birthday. A SAICare coordinating team was set up, with National and State level Project leaders with their own terms of reference. The modus operandi would include: • A dossier comprising of the mechanics of implementation of each of the project to be given to state and centre leaders • An executive committee comprised of VP’s and Wing leaders to oversee the implementation of the SAI CARE programme. • The respective VPs to periodically call for meeting with project leaders in order to assess the effectiveness of the implementation of the projects. • At every EXCO meeting, the progress is to be reported and monitored so that we can update during subsequent council meetings.
