SAI-CARE An Offering for Humanity and Nation Building 4. EXPECTED OUTCOME A youth who would exhibit human values in everyday living. A confident youth who would have a better understanding of working together as a team. Cultivate among youths the ability to value and understand another person’s view and at the same time to express his/her view with courage. 5. PROJECT OUTCOME The Target set was to conduct 6 Statewise Elocution competitions. At the end of the SaiCare Project period, a total of 6 Competitions had been conducted. Sis. Elaine Ong : 2. Sis. Dr.Usha : 3. Sis. Sujadah 1. INTRODUCTION Storytelling is one of the five teaching techniques in the Sai Spiritual Education programme. Sharing and creating a common experience in storytelling aids in the development of a child's ability to interpret events beyond his immediate experience. The child's world view is expanded through story experiences in a non-threatening and loving atmosphere. Therefore storytelling becomes an exceptionally personal experience. The Sathya Sai Baba Central Council of Malaysia has been organising nationwide competitions under the banner – National Human Values Story Telling Competition. Each Sathya Sai Baba Centre/bhajan unit/EHV class initially conduct story telling competitions respectively to choose their representatives. This is followed by a State level competition. Top three winners from each state then compete at the National level. 2. OBJECTIVE To promote and project Human Values among SSEHV children and the community in general, as a step to stem the decline in Human Values which is leading to a host of problems for all nations: - drug addiction, lack of respect for parents, promiscuity, etc. In addition, the self-confidence level of children will also be raised through exposure in such programmes. The specific objectives of this activity are as follows: • To encourage practice of human values in everyday living • To introduce children to oral language patterns (for a child to achieve success in reading, wide experience with spoken language is needed). This will then encourage children to get into healthy reading habits and the world of books. • Story telling develops the children’s listening skills • Contributes to the social and cognitive development through shared experience (to feel joy for another’s happiness and empathize with their misfortunes) • Contribute to the child’s mental health • Aids in development of a human value system • Introduces classic stories with human values to children • Aids in vocabulary development of the chosen language(English, Malay, Mandarin and Tamil language) • Helps the child to appreciate his own heritage as well as those of others • Develops self-confidence in the child
