B. 3. Adoption of Poor Families
Project Reference : Service
Project Name : Poor Families Project
Programme (Wing) Leader : Bro Mahendran
Project Leader : Bro Mohana
1. Introduction
There exists in various parts of our country, pockets of communities where there are
hard-core poor and where the residents are living in poverty. This may occur in the
rural as well as urban areas. Generally these are also the areas where there are high
incidents of social problems, illiteracy and a high crime rate.
2. Objective
a) To provide relief and help in the eradication of hardcore poverty.
b) To assist in the economic and social upliftment of the residents.
c) To provide education support for the youth & children.
Through the participation of devotees in this project, love and care for the less
fortunate can be nurtured.
3. Implementation
Potential recipients shall be families with average income below RM 1000-00 and who
are living in poverty. This may be in the rural as well as in the urban areas.
(However, the poverty line of RM 1000-00 family income must be seen with
discrimination. A bachelor with $700-00, a family of 2 with $700-00 and a family of 5, 6
or 7 with $700-00 are different dimensions.)
Also a family comprising husband and wife and 3 children (family of 5) and a family
with husband/wife and one child and two elderly parents (possibly sick) is another
dimension. Also a family of 3 (husband/wife) and one crippled child...is yet another
dimension. So the poverty line of $1000-00 should be tempered with compassion and
help extended on a need basis.
4. Expected Outcome
a. To relieve the financial burden of poor and needy families
b. Opportunity for devotees to project love and work with unity .
c. Expose more members to participate in service programmes.
d. Build interfaith harmony through service among all races
