1. Introduction
There exist in various parts of our country, pockets of communities where there are
hard-core poor and where the residents are living in poverty. This may be in the rural
as well as urban areas. Generally these are also the areas where there are high
incidents of social problems, illiteracy and a high crime rate. Lately Swami has been
focusing on this type of project in India.
2. Objective
1. To provide relief and help in the eradication of hardcore poverty.
2. To assist in the economic and social upliftment of the residents.
3. To provide education support for the youth & children.
4. To promote better neighbourliness – a spirit of caring and sharing amongst the
residents.
5. To promote inter-racial and inter-religious harmony amongst the residents.
6. To promote family unity – i.e. greater bonding and inter-action between
parents and children (teenagers and young adults).
7. To promote healthy and wholesome activities for the youth.
8. To promote the importance of Traditions, Religion, Aspiration and Culture
(TRAC) which will help in overcoming the social ills of today.
Our strategy should be to give the residents what they need so that they would want
what we want to give them. Our attempt was to bring the residents, especially the
youth, into a value oriented lifestyle so that they become useful to themselves, their
families and the community.
3. Implementation
The CAP initiative creates lasting benefits for a community staying in rural
environments, e.g. estates, villages, kampong, low cost flats or a settlement which lack
the basic facilities found in most modern households. A CAP programme should have
one regular programme from each of the three categories listed below.
EDUCARE
• STAR (Student Training in Attitude and Responsibility)
• Free Tuition.
• Public Youth Program
