As a rule, these four main functions<br />

overlap and complement each<br />

other in the defined open and green space<br />

corridors, although the weighting of the<br />

respective criteria obviously varies.<br />

Viennese Analysis of Industrial<br />

and Commercial Areas<br />

Good-quality industrial and commercial<br />

areas are essential for a city’s standing as<br />

a business hub, the preservation of industrial<br />

production on-site and its supply<br />

with logistics and trade functions. In 2008,<br />

the City of Vienna joined forces with the<br />

Vienna Economic Chamber and the Vienna<br />

Business Agency to conduct an analysis<br />

of industrial and commercial areas to<br />

obtain an overview of industrial and commercial<br />

production in the Austrian capital,<br />

to classify these areas and, in due course,<br />

to designate zones for these purposes.<br />

Waste Management Plan for Vienna<br />

Whenever required and in any case every<br />

six years, Municipal Department 48 develops<br />

the Waste Management Plan for the<br />

City of Vienna on behalf of the Vienna<br />

Provincial Government. This document<br />

inter alia comprises: 1) status quo of<br />

waste management, in particular with<br />

regard to the types and quantities of<br />

waste produced in Vienna; 2) waste management<br />

forecasts and related necessary<br />

measures; 3) demand, status quo and<br />

operation of waste treatment plants and<br />

landfills; and 4) the required number of<br />

persons or facilities for waste disposal<br />

consultancy services. The current Waste<br />

Management Plan for Vienna covers the<br />

period from 2013 to 2018.<br />

wohnfonds_wien was established in<br />

1984 as the then Vienna Land Provision<br />

and Urban Renewal Fund. Its tasks comprise<br />

on the one hand the preparation<br />

and implementation of urban renewal<br />

measures in the context of gentle urban<br />

renewal and on the other hand the provision<br />

of real restate for social housing<br />

construction in Vienna and quality assurance<br />

in the field of building construction<br />

with the aid of two instruments:<br />

developers’ competitions and the Land<br />

Advisory Board.<br />

VOR – Verkehrsverbund Ost-Region<br />

(Transport Association for<br />

the Eastern Region of Austria)<br />

Verkehrsverbund Ost-Region is the<br />

oldest and biggest transport association<br />

of Austria. VOR provides co-ordinated<br />

services and management of public<br />

transport in Vienna, Lower Austria and<br />

Burgenland. It defines itself as a mobility<br />

provider evolving comprehensive regional<br />

transport offerings at the interface<br />

between passengers and transport companies,<br />

politics and administration. VOR<br />

co-or dinates the public transport services<br />

of more than 40 transport companies<br />

operating over 900 bus and rail-bound<br />

lines in the eastern region of Austria.<br />
