Modern service providers – they account for the biggest sector<br />
of Vienna’s economy – often are very demanding regarding office<br />
locations, in particular with respect to accessibility by public<br />
transport, availability of amenities such as restaurants, personal<br />
services and shops, location in an established office zone and<br />
state-of-the-art building appointments. Meeting these demands is<br />
not only in the interests of the enterprises themselves, but also<br />
in those of the city: offices and retail shopping in suitable locations<br />
with good infrastructure save resources and allow employees<br />
and customers to avail themselves of cost-efficient and comfortable<br />
trips to and from work and for shopping by means of<br />
public transport, bike or walking. For this reason, new, largescale<br />
office projects and big municipal facilities are directed to<br />
locations that can be reached by efficient public transport and are<br />
key development zones of the city. As a result, existing urban<br />
structures and infrastructure facilities are used effectively, while<br />
locations are in their turn upgraded. This is of particular benefit<br />
for existing shopping streets, whose clientele will be enlarged<br />
and whose range of services or goods will be positively complemented.<br />
