PREFACE<br />
The Ministry strives to have a food secure and wealthy nation anchored on an innovative,<br />
commercially oriented and competitive agricultural sector. The aim is to improve the<br />
livelihood <strong>of</strong> Kenyans and ensures food security through creation <strong>of</strong> an enabling environment<br />
and ensuring sustainable natural resource management. It therefore closely monitors the<br />
performance <strong>of</strong> the agriculture sector which has a major impact on the Kenya’s economic<br />
performance.<br />
This ninth edition <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Economic</strong> <strong>Review</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Agriculture</strong> (ERA) is a continuation <strong>of</strong><br />
the Ministry’s efforts in data consolidation, analysis and dissemination to the various<br />
stakeholders. It provides domestic macro indicators with an international perspective that<br />
help in comparative analysis. This edition has given much more focus in analysis <strong>of</strong> 2013<br />
and 2014 data since the publication was not produced in year 2014 owing to transition<br />
challenges in the process <strong>of</strong> devolution.<br />
<strong>Economic</strong> <strong>Review</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Agriculture</strong> (ERA) <strong>2015</strong> edition comprises <strong>of</strong> nine chapters which mainly<br />
present agricultural data analysis and annexes which tabulates useful production data from<br />
all the counties. Chapter one (1) provides basic analysis on aggregate national economic<br />
indicators for five years as well as key indicators on performance <strong>of</strong> agriculture. Extracts on<br />
the world food commodity situation and forecasts by Food and <strong>Agriculture</strong> Organization<br />
(FAO) are analyzed in chapter two (2), to help in comparative analysis.<br />
Chapter three (3), four (4) and five (5) are the main ones and they give detailed analysis<br />
<strong>of</strong> crops, fisheries and livestock performance respectively. Chapter six (6) presents analysis<br />
<strong>of</strong> inputs for crops, fisheries and livestock. The chapter contains analysis and information<br />
regarding inputs such as seed, fertilizers, feed, credits and equipments. A summary <strong>of</strong> key<br />
recent reforms; trends in budget allocation to the Ministry; and the ministry’s programmes<br />
and projects are presented in chapters seven (7), eight (8) and nine (9) respectively.<br />
The ministry is confident that, <strong>Economic</strong> <strong>Review</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Agriculture</strong> will continue to <strong>of</strong>fer<br />
stakeholders and others, access to new information and insights on the sector which the<br />
entire Kenyan economy so much depend on.<br />
