3.1.8 Cow Peas
Cowpeas production registered an increase from 1,486,180 in 2013 to 1,540,813 bags (90kg) in 2014. This could be
attributed to the corresponding consistent increase in area under production and the promotion of drought tolerance
crops by the Ministry and its partners. However, there was a minor decrease in yields from 5.9 bags/ha in 2013 to 5.5
bag/ha in 2014.

3.1.9 Green Grams
The area under green grams increased over the years from 147,352 ha in 2010 to 259,167 ha in 2014 leading to
increased production from 680,528 bags in 2010 to 1,345,294 bags in 2014. Both production and consumption has
consistently increased over time.
