Missi<strong>on</strong> inDraDhanush<br />

Missi<strong>on</strong> Indradhanush was launched <strong>on</strong> 25th December<br />

2014, with a focus <strong>on</strong> interventi<strong>on</strong>s to improve the<br />

Routine Immunizati<strong>on</strong> coverage in India from reported<br />

65% (2014) to at least 90% target children in next five<br />

years. The Missi<strong>on</strong> is planned to work through organizing<br />

special catch up campaigns. The Missi<strong>on</strong> Indradhanush,<br />

depicting seven colours of the rainbow, targets to<br />

immunize all children against seven vaccine preventable<br />

diseases namely Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Childhood<br />

Tuberculosis, Polio, Hepatitis B and Measles. In additi<strong>on</strong><br />

to this, vaccines for JE (Japanese Encephalitis) and Hib<br />

(Haemophilus influenzae type B) are also being provided<br />

in selected States.<br />

201 high focus Districts have been identified for coverage<br />

during first phase of the Missi<strong>on</strong> in Year 2015. These<br />

Districts have been identified <strong>on</strong> the basis of coverage of<br />

routine immunizati<strong>on</strong> of nearly 50% of all unvaccinated<br />

or partially vaccinated children. Out of these identified<br />

201 districts, 82 districts lie in four States namely, UP,<br />

Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Nearly 25% of<br />

the unvaccinated or partially vaccinated children of India<br />

live in these 82 districts of 4 States. Furthermore, another<br />

297 districts will be targeted in the sec<strong>on</strong>d phase of<br />

year 2015.<br />

The Government has planned four special vaccinati<strong>on</strong><br />

campaigns starting from April to July 2015. All these<br />

vaccines are already available free of cost under universal<br />

immunisati<strong>on</strong> programme in India. Under this missi<strong>on</strong>,<br />

government plans to intensify its efforts and thus increase<br />

accessibility of these vaccines to all the children of India.<br />
