Reducti<strong>on</strong> of maternal and infant mortality in<br />
Meghalaya is a major challenge. The objective of the<br />
innovati<strong>on</strong> is to reduce maternal and infant mortality.<br />
ProgrammE DEsCriPti<strong>on</strong><br />
Meghalaya Maternity Benefit Scheme was launched in<br />
2011-12. it provides coverage to all pregnant women<br />
(19 years and above) bel<strong>on</strong>ging to BPL families. The<br />
scheme is limited for the first two children. It can be<br />
availed after the mother completes 3 anC check-ups,<br />
TT injecti<strong>on</strong>s and IFA tablets. Financial assistance of<br />
Rs. 4000 is provided to the mother for antenatal care and<br />
post-natal care. ASHA receives an incentive of Rs. 1000<br />
for promoting antenatal care and instituti<strong>on</strong>al delivery.<br />
The services can be availed at the government hospitals<br />
& accredited private hospitals. To avail the benefits<br />
each beneficiary registered should have a MMBS card<br />
al<strong>on</strong>g with an M&CP Card. A grievance redressal<br />
cell supported by the DPMU has been set up at<br />
district level.<br />
