The objective of the Scheme is to:<br />

increase awareness am<strong>on</strong>g adolescent girls <strong>on</strong><br />

menstrual hygiene.<br />

Build self-esteem and empower girls for greater<br />

socialisati<strong>on</strong>.<br />

To increase access to and use of high quality sanitary<br />

napkins.<br />

To ensure safe disposal of sanitary napkins.<br />

ProgrammE DEsCriPti<strong>on</strong><br />

The Menstrual Hygiene Programme was launched by<br />

H<strong>on</strong>’ble Chief Minister of Tamil nadu <strong>on</strong> 27.03.2012 at<br />

Chennai.<br />

Under this Scheme:<br />

• 3 packs of Priceless beltless sanitary napkins c<strong>on</strong>taining<br />

6 pads per packs are distributed every 2 m<strong>on</strong>ths for<br />

each adolescent girl from 10-19 years of age.<br />

• 18 packs are given for a year.<br />

• Both school and n<strong>on</strong>-school going girls in rural areas<br />

are benefited.<br />

• The sanitary napkins are procured through Tamil<br />

Nadu Medical Services Corporati<strong>on</strong> Limited.<br />

• 7 packs (6 pads per pack) of Priceless belt-type sanitary<br />

napkins are distributed to post-natal mothers who<br />

delivered in government instituti<strong>on</strong>s.<br />

• initially these napkins are provided to the post-natal<br />

mothers in three <strong>Health</strong> Unit Districts (Kancheepuram,<br />

Thiruvallur and Po<strong>on</strong>amallee).<br />

• 18 packs (6 pads per pack) of Priceless belt- type<br />

sanitary napkins are also given to women pris<strong>on</strong><br />

inmates and female inpatients in the institute of<br />

Mental <strong>Health</strong>, Chennai.<br />

Belt-type sanitary napkins produced by Self Help Groups<br />

are supplied through the Tamil nadu Corporati<strong>on</strong> for<br />

Development of Women Ltd., and procurement is made<br />

through Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporati<strong>on</strong> Ltd.<br />

and post-natal mothers across the State.<br />
