En 1908, el coleccionista estadounidense Archer Milton
Huntington inauguró un edificio en Manhattan: la Hispanic
Society of America. Su función era divulgar la cultura
hispánica y de América Latina, y en ella depositó más de
18.000 piezas de arte –incluyendo obras de Goya, Velázquez
o el Greco– y una biblioteca con 60.000 documentos.
Ninguna otra institución fuera de España posee unos
fondos tan grandes sobre cultura hispánica. Ahora, una
selección de 200 piezas de la Hispanic Society viaja al Museo
del Prado para la muestra Visiones del mundo hispánico,
que se inaugura el 4 de abril. / In 1908, US art collector
Archer Milton Huntington inaugurated a building in
Manhattan: the Hispanic Society of America. The aim was
to disseminate Hispanic and Latin American culture and
there, he deposited more than 18,000
works of art -including works by
Goya or Velazquez- and a library
of 60,000 documents. No other
institution outside Spain holds
such extensive collections on
Hispanic culture. Now, 200
pieces are travelling to the
Prado Museum for the Visions
of the Hispanic World
exhibit which is set to be inaugurated
on April 4th.
