During the 1950’s and up thru the 1970’s it was common
practice for mothers giving their babies up for adoption to
be placed under anesthesia during the birth process. Both
mother and baby have a biological need for boding and
absent that experience separation anxiety which can lead
to depression.
According to the adoption records I uncovered, I was a
sick child for most of the year I was in foster care.
In addition, being raised in an abusive environment from
my adoptive father’s alcoholism and abrasive personality
only added further challenges to my psychology.
Much of this explained the troubles I had as a young man
and still deal with five decades later.
