Referring back to CASE STUDY #2 in the previous
chapter, the descendants of the holocaust victims of
WWII inherited a mutated genetic sequence from their
ancestors resulting in modern day cases of depression,
anxiety and suicide.
The genetic mutation was created generations before by
an atrocity for which, at the time, the victim’s cortisol
levels were insufficient to regulate the stress of the
situation and on a genetic level recorded the moment by
creating an adaptive genetic change for future
generations.
Unfortunately, for some of those descendants who
inherited the genetic mutated sequence caused by the
atrocity generations before, they are now susceptible to
increased cortisol levels that can create symptoms such as
depressions, higher levels of anxiety and even suicide.
In addition to the higher levels of cortisol, the studies
showed there were reduced levels of serotonin, effecting
mood and social behavior. Serotonin is often referred to
as the happiness chemical in our brains
