Now, I knew about the federal Age Discrimination in
Employment Act (ADEA) protecting individuals who are
40 years of age or older from employment discrimination
based on age. As much as I felt the sting of such
discrimination I didn’t have the fighting spirit or the
resources to pursue it legally. I was running out of time,
my money was almost gone and I was getting desperate.
Meanwhile, back in California, Cheryl was settling into
her new life. Her father had wired nearly $30,000 to help
her and the children get back on her feet. Her friends and
the local community church were excellent resources.
After finding a new job and house within 8 months of our
financial collapse, she began to flourish.
We were still legally married and our relationship was
ambiguous at best. But, she then took to social media and
began to boast of her newly found independence to our
network of friends. Some of her posts included comments
that said:
