Unlike for DNP3, there is no authority to provide certification of IEC 60870-5 compliance
authorized directly by the IEC. However, there are commercial testing laboratories that do
offer testing to this standard.
At website http://www.trianglemicroworks.com/iec60870-5 the ‘Implementers of
IEC 60870-5’ page lists consultants including firms offering compliance testing to the
standard. Also listed are firms that offer test sets that may be used for system testing.
These include ASE, Cybertec, FGH, KEMA, PTI and Tele-Data.
9.3 Other information sources
IEC 60870-5 has no official user group, however there is a mail-list where a number
of members of the IEC working group and other technical experts discuss and answer
questions about the protocols.

This site has a substantial list of implementers of the protocol, grouped by equipment
type category in a similar manner to that available at the DNP3 website. It also provides
access to technical papers and discussion records.
The following information about the mail-list is repeated from the website:
• The mail-list was established as a result of discussions at the IEC Technical
Committee 57 Working Group 03 meeting in Lucerne (April 1998) concerning
the likely interoperability of products claiming to conform to IEC
60870-5-101, the desire of users to obtain ‘plug and play’ products, and how
best to help users and suppliers interpret the standard in a consistent way. The
objective of the mail-list is to create a place implementers and users of IEC
60870-5 can discuss different interpretations of the specifications in an effort
to establish a consensus opinion on each topic. The mail-list is open to anyone
with an interest in IEC 60870-5 and there are no membership fees.
