CRC
Crosstalk
CSMA/CD
CSC
CSD
CT-2
CT-3
CTI
CTS
The facility provided by the dial network or a data PABX
which allows multiple terminals to compete on a first come,
first served basis for a smaller number of computer posts. Also
used as a medium access method by Ethernet/IEEE 802.3
networks where multiple network interface cards contend for
access to the bus.
Cyclic Redundancy Check. An error-checking mechanism
using a polynomial algorithm based on the content of a
message frame at the transmitter and included in a field
appended to the frame. At the receiver, it is then compared
with the result of the calculation that is performed by the
receiver.
A situation where a signal from a communications channel
interferes with an associated channel’s signals.
Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Detection. When two
stations transmit at the same time on a local area network,
they both cease transmission and signal that a collision
has occurred. Each then tries again after waiting for a
predetermined time period. This contention-based mechanism
forms the basis of the ethernet/IEEE 802.3 specifications.
Circuit Switched Cellular.
Circuit Switched Data.
Second-generation digital cordless standard.
Third generation cordless standard, similar to DECT.
Computer Telephony Integration.
Cordless Telephone System for GSM phone systems.
D-AMPS
DASK
Data link layer
Datagram
DCS-1800
DDS
Digital AMPS (IS-54), a.k.a. North American TDMA.
Differential Amplitude Shift Keying.
This corresponds to layer 2 of the ISO Reference Model for
open systems interconnection. It is concerned with the reliable
transfer of data (no residual transmission errors) across the
data link being used.
A type of service offered on a packet-switched data network.
A datagram is a self-contained packet of information that is
sent through the network with minimum protocol overheads.
A different version of GSM, operating in the 1800 MHz band.
Digital Data Service. Leased digital circuits supplied by
Telecom service provider.
