Objective:<br />

The objective of this practical is to give the delegate the opportunity to decode some<br />

examples of real DNP3 packets. These packets have been captured from a real working<br />

system.<br />

Equipment needed:<br />

A Computer or calculator that can convert Hexadecimal to Decimal <strong>and</strong> Binary<br />

Procedure:<br />

Follow the instructions on the following sheets. Use the book as required. Pages are<br />

mentioned throughout the practical. Use the DNP APDU short cut sheet. And use the<br />

calculator as provided under Application in Windows. If any help is needed consult the<br />

instructor.<br />

Interpretation <strong>Practical</strong>:<br />

Below is a typical communication between two DNP3 devices. Decode the packets <strong>and</strong><br />

determine what kind of communication is taking place. Answer the question as requested.<br />
