Mechanical Trade and Motor Trade SOLAS<br />

Apprenticeships at <strong>LIT</strong><br />

SOLAS DUBLIN<br />

Block Release Programmes are provided for Registered Apprentices in the Fitting and Motor Trades. Block<br />

Release Programmes are normally ten or eleven weeks. All Apprentices come to the Institute for two blocks<br />

(called Phase 4 and Phase 6) during their approximate four years of training. These are scheduled by SOLAS.<br />

Apprentices within the Fitting programme are encouraged to complete the City & Guilds 2565 Applied<br />

Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Technician evening programme at <strong>LIT</strong>.<br />

Modules<br />

Mechanical Trade<br />

Workshop Technology, Mathematics and Craft Calculation, Engineering Science, Technical Drawing and<br />

Complementary Studies.<br />

Motor Trade<br />

Garage Practice (Practical), Motor Workshop (Practical), Motor Vehicle Theory, Automobile Electricity,<br />

Motor Vehicle Science and Calculations, Automobile Electricity, Practical Electronics, Information<br />

Technology, and Graphical Interpretation.<br />

Welding Theory<br />

In addition, Mechanical Trade Apprentices attending Block Release programmes take Machine Shop Practice<br />

(Practical) and Welding (Practical).<br />

Awarding Body<br />

Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC). All apprentices are scheduled for attendance by<br />

SOLAS by whom they are registered. All enquiries, therefore, should be made directly to SOLAS.<br />
