The Faculty of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology comprises five academic<br />
departments:<br />
• Department of Applied Science<br />
• Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering<br />
• Department of Mechanical and Automobile Engineering<br />
• Department of the Built Environment<br />
• Department of Information Technology<br />
The Faculty has over 2,500 full-time students, a considerable evening continuing education<br />
programme and also delivers block release courses to apprentices in the trades of electrician,<br />
carpentry and joinery, motor mechanic and mechanical fitter.<br />
The Faculty provides a very wide and diverse range of programmes to our community from<br />
Music Technology and Production to Agricultural Mechanisation to Pharmaceutical and<br />
Forensic Analysis to Civil Engineering to Quantity Surveying and Computing. The academic<br />
level of our programmes ranges from Higher Certificates (Level 6), to Ordinary Degrees,<br />
Honours Degrees, Masters Degrees and on to PhD (Level 10)<br />
We are constantly monitoring the quality and relevance of all of our programmes of study and<br />
developing new programmes to meet the demand of students and industry. Programmes are<br />
recognised by the relevant professional bodies including Engineers Ireland, Society of<br />
Chartered Surveyors Ireland, the Chartered Institute of Building and others. Details of<br />
programmes are provided under each Department section of this brochure.<br />
Research is very active within the Faculty and we are very proud of our activities to date.<br />
Research active groups within the Faculty are successful in leading and co-ordinating<br />
international research and gaining research funding.<br />
Our ambition as a Faculty is to continue to be at the forefront of new technological<br />
developments, to design new and innovative programmes and to support our local and<br />
national industry and commercial sector. In particular, the Faculty of Applied Science,<br />
Engineering and Technology is committed to developing and applying new and innovative<br />
active learning strategies to enhance and improve the learning experience of our student<br />
community and to provide students with the knowledge, skills and competencies to contribute<br />
actively to their chosen profession.<br />
We welcome students who wish to graduate as professionals in the Science, Engineering,<br />
Information Technology and Built Environment industries and who wish to participate actively<br />
in the academic, sporting and social life of the Institute.<br />
