What is the programme about?<br />

This programme is one of the most reputable of its kind in Ireland. <strong>LIT</strong> aims to produce high quality problemsolving<br />

graduates skilled in the measurement principles and techniques employed in Forensic and<br />

Pharmaceutical Analysis and students achieve a detailed knowledge and understanding of the sciences<br />

underpinning both the forensic, pharmaceutical and analytical fields. Students will gain exposure to, and<br />

experience in, the methodology and techniques at the heart of these key scientific areas.<br />

In <strong>LIT</strong>, we place an emphasis on “hands-on work” (approximately 50% of scheduled course work), endowing<br />

our graduates with a highly desirable and much sought-after set of skills and expertise: experience in<br />

pharmaceutical and forensic science combined with a range of analytical techniques which make graduates<br />

highly sought after by employers.<br />

Who is the programme suited to?<br />

This programme is ideal for students with a questioning mind and interested in using Science to solve<br />

problems. It will suit any student interested in laboratory Science. It is the most established programme of its<br />

kind in Ireland.<br />

Minimum Entry Requirements:<br />

Leaving Certificate: A minimum of 5<br />

O6/H7 grades in Leaving Certificate<br />

subjects, including Mathematics and<br />

English or Irish.<br />

Year 1: Forensic & Scientific Practice, Biology, Chemistry, Introductory Physics Concepts, and Mathematics<br />

for Scientists.<br />

Year 2: Forensics, Biosciences, Introduction to Pharmaceutical Science, Instrumental Analysis, Inorganic &<br />

Physical Chemistry, and Statistical Process Control.<br />

Year 3: Forensic Toxicology & Drug Analysis, Bio-toxicology, Molecular & Immuno Biology, Quality<br />

Assurance, Instrumental Analysis, Pharmaceutical Technology, Project.<br />

What can I do after the programme?<br />

Graduates of the programme will have a great mix of skills and knowledge needed for today’s employment<br />

market and are hugely sought after by employers.<br />

The programme also offers a progression route to the Level 8 BSc. (Honours) in Forensic & Pharmaceutical<br />

Science within the Department of Applied Science.<br />
