Admissions and the DARE Scheme
LIT is a member of the Disability Access Route to Education
(DARE) Scheme.
School-leavers with a disability applying for full time
undergraduate programmes at LIT should apply via the Central
Applications Office (CAO), indicating on their application that
they have a disability or specific learning difficulty.
What is the DARE Scheme?
The Disability Access Route to Education (DARE) is a third
level alternative admissions scheme which offers reduced
points places to school leavers who as a result of having a
disability have experienced additional educational challenges in
second level education. The DARE Code of Practice details
LIT’s admission policy for eligible DARE applicants. Detailed
information is available on the DARE website at
www.accesscollege.ie/dare
Who can apply to DARE?
DARE is for school leavers under the age of 23 as of 1st
January 2018, who have the ability to benefit from and
succeed in higher education, but who may not be able to meet
the points for their preferred course due to the impact of a
disability on their second level education. Applicants to DARE
can present with an Irish Leaving Certificate, A-Levels and
other EU qualifications.
Qualifications other than the Leaving Certificate
