What is the programme about?<br />

This honours degree programme prepares students for a broad range of careers in the fast moving computing<br />

industry. The programme will produce graduates capable of designing, building and maintaining secure<br />

Internet based systems, mobile apps and learn to connect devices and make them work together.<br />

Students will analyse, design, model and implement effective web based systems using appropriate, current<br />

modelling, design and programming tools, and methodologies. Students will also develop the skills needed for<br />

semantic web services, to handle situations requiring representation and retrieval of knowledge. The<br />

underlying technologies and application architectures used by web enterprises are also addressed.<br />

The work placement in Year 3 gives students the opportunity for further personal development in real world<br />

job situations.<br />

Who is the programme suited to?<br />

This programme is suited to those interested in how Internet based systems work, in designing and building<br />

websites, and want to build their knowledge and technical capacity in this continually changing area. The<br />

programme will be suited to students seeking to establish a career in the technology sectors. This is<br />

particularly appealing given the job vacancies which exist in the ICT area currently.<br />

The programme is semesterised and modules over the four years cover the areas of: Programming, Mobile<br />

App Development, Databases & Data Analytics, Web Technology, Web Business, Computer Systems, UX/UI<br />

design processes, Security, Server & Cloud Deployment, Future Technologies & Connective Living, Big Data<br />

Mining & Analysis, Machine learning, Software Engineering & Design, Individual & Team Projects,<br />

Professional Development.<br />

Work Placement<br />

Students spend 6 months in Year 3 on a work related placement.<br />

What can I do after the programme?<br />

The programme equips students with the skills needed to gain employment as Web Application Developer,<br />

Web Designer and Programmer, Mobile App Developer, Software Tester, Software Design Engineer, Database<br />

Application Developer and lays a foundation for advancing in the field of Games Development.<br />

An IT career can provide opportunities for worldwide travel; graduates of this programme have been sent to<br />

many differing worldwide locations while retaining their Ireland base.<br />
