The Department of Food & Tourism provides a high quality and relevant education in Travel<br />
and Tourism Management, Event Management, Hotel Front Office Management, Hospitality<br />
Studies and Culinary Arts. All our programmes provide a blend of theory and practice through<br />
active learning approaches where we actively prepare our students for dynamic and exciting<br />
careers in Food & Tourism.<br />
Our Department works closely with leading industry organisations and experts including Fáilte<br />
Ireland, Irish Hotel Federation, The Taste Council, Bord Bia, Restaurant Association of Ireland,<br />
Association of Ireland Festival and Events, Tourism Ireland, Ireland Skills and Euro-Toques. In<br />
addition, as all our students are required to complete a professional work placement, we have<br />
extensive links with leading industry professionals which ensures that our graduates continue<br />
to shape and contribute to the sustainable development and future of the Irish hospitality,<br />
travel and tourism industry.<br />
The Department of Food & Tourism offers the following programmes that require students to<br />
undertake placement:<br />
• Business Studies with Event Management Bachelor of Arts (Honours)<br />
• Business Studies with Travel and Tourism Management Bachelor of Arts (Honours)<br />
• Hotel Front Office Management Higher Certificate in Business<br />
• Hospitality Studies Higher Certificate in Arts<br />
• Add-on Hospitality Supervision Bachelor of Arts<br />
• Culinary Arts Higher Certificate in Arts<br />
• Add-on Culinary Arts Bachelor of Arts<br />
To ensure the protection of the public and justify public trust and confidence, <strong>LIT</strong> uses the<br />
Garda Vetting Unit (GCVU) service to assess the suitability of applicants to these programmes.<br />
Depending upon the outcome of the vetting process, the Institute reserves the following<br />
rights:<br />
• To not register a student;<br />
• To remove an existing registered student;<br />
• To delay the student’s placement modules on programmes.<br />
In all circumstances, it is the student’s responsibility to proactively disclose any convictions or<br />
pending cases. The Institute reserves the right to inform any placement provider of any<br />
convictions or pending cases.<br />
