What is the programme about?<br />
The aim of this programme is to meet the demand for graduates with both visual and interactive design skills<br />
that can produce immersive digital media experiences. Graduates will be able to work in a range of roles and<br />
contexts across the Digital Media, Design and Technology sectors. Graduates will be equipped with knowledge<br />
and skills related to Interface & User Experience Design, Interaction Design, Visualisation (in both an<br />
interactive and non-interactive context), Augmented and Mixed Reality, Web Technologies & Motion Graphics.<br />
The programme offering blends technology with visual and interactive design practices to produce unique<br />
graduates. The programme is heavily focused on the needs and requirements of the digital media sector. To<br />
this end, students are provided with comprehensive lectures, tutorials and workshops in creative, design &<br />
technological fields. Students also gain valuable work experience and opportunities to collaborate with external<br />
organisations and agencies by undertaking client-led external briefs.<br />
Delivery focuses on foundational visual and interactive design principles, complemented with the development<br />
of technological skills. As the programme progresses, there is a greater emphasis on the creation of an overall<br />
immersive digital media experience. This is achieved through cross-modular projects that require students to<br />
be cognisant of both creative and technical requirements in the conception and execution of project briefs.<br />

This programme is suited to individuals that have an interest in design and creative technologies and the<br />
potential that digital media offers individuals, organisations and wider society.<br />

Year 1: Multimedia Technology, Audio Storytelling, Visual Language, Interpersonal Development, Design<br />
Studio I - Critical & Creative Thinking, Digital Media Management and Networks, Interactive Programming I,<br />
Design Studio II - Interaction Design, Motion Graphics I, 3D Modelling I - Introduction to Modelling for<br />
Animation, Visual Design.<br />
Year 2: Interactive Programming II, Design Studio III - User Interface Design, Media Writing, Web Design<br />
Techniques, Media Capture and Editing, Front-End Web Technologies, Information Visualisation, Effective<br />
Teamwork, Motion Graphics II, Web Content Management Systems.<br />
Year 3: Database Technology, Server Side Programming I, Interactive Visualisation, Professional<br />
Development, Audio Environments, Digital Literacies, Augmented & Mixed Reality Environments,<br />
Management of Digital Media Projects, Interaction Design: Research Methods, Web Development<br />
Frameworks*, Video Environments*, Employment Placement.<br />
*Students choose one of these electives in year 3.<br />

O6/H7 grades in Leaving Certificate<br />

CAO applicants can avail of up to 200<br />
bonus points by presenting a portfolio of<br />
selected work for evaluation. However, a<br />
portfolio is not a required element for<br />
