What is the programme about?<br />
This is a unique Level 6 programme in Ireland that provides an exciting opportunity for individuals who wish<br />
to immerse themselves in the world of fashion and textile design. This Level 6 Higher Certificate in Fashion<br />
and Textiles for Product and Costume runs in parallel to the Level 8 programme and offers graduates of this 2<br />
year programme the option to progress to Year 3 and 4 of the honours degree.<br />
This programme offers students the opportunity of training in areas specific to fashion and textiles design for<br />
product and costume design where there is a specific intention to focus on developing design flexibility,<br />
exploring how the skills and experience gained in the areas of the broad remit of Fashion and Textiles for<br />
Product and Costume can be utilised in a variety of specialisations and activities. This programme also offers<br />
students the exciting prospect to work on live, collaborative projects and a work placement within industry.<br />
Modules<br />
Year 1: Students will be introduced to the working methodologies and vocabulary related to the use and<br />
application of Fashion and Textile for Product and Costume design. Projects are focused on exploring the<br />
importance of obtaining primary research and determining the appropriate process of design development.<br />
Training will also be provided on digital drawing platforms such as illustrator and photoshop. The first year<br />
aims to provide students with the necessary skills and contextual knowledge to build a strong foundation in<br />
Fashion & Textiles for Product and Costume.<br />
Year 2: Focuses on further developing the student’s personal process of research and design development<br />
in response to specific briefs whilst acquiring new skills in fashion knitwear (domestic and industrial Shima<br />
Seiki knit technology), creative pattern cutting, iIlustrator and Photoshop. Students will begin to identify<br />
their particular pathway.<br />
What can I do after the programme?<br />
Graduate employment opportunities include: Designer, (fashion, knitwear, textile or product) trend forecasting,<br />
manufacturing and production technician, stylist, trend forecasting, fashion/knitwear buying and<br />
merchandising, design journalism.<br />
Graduates can also progress to Year 3 of the Level 8 honours degree in Fashion and Textiles for Product and<br />
Costume at Limerick School of Art & Design.<br />

Certificate results and Portfolio Assessment<br />
Minimum Entry Requirements:<br />
Leaving Certificate: A minimum of 5<br />
O6/H7 grades in Leaving Certificate<br />
subjects, including English or Irish.<br />
Mathematics is not a subject requirement<br />
for this programme.<br />
A Portfolio is also required. Applicants<br />
will be accepted to Year 1 of the<br />
programme based on a combination of<br />
Leaving Certificate/QQI FET/FETAC<br />
results and Portfolio Assessment. The<br />
Portfolio will be scored out of 600 with a<br />
minimum score of 240 required to pass.<br />
