Ceramics
Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Design
What is the programme about?
The Ceramics programme covers a wide range of expressive practice, reflecting the diversity of contemporary
ceramic approaches; from the individual maker making functional, decorative, figurative or conceptual objects,
to the designer producing products that are informed by social, cultural and lifestyle issues. The programme
enables students to engage with the full breadth of ceramic processes to find inventive solutions with an
awareness of design, context and responsibility and encourages new ideas, challenges and risk taking in the
conception and realisation of creative ceramic work.
Ceramics at LSAD is the largest specialist ceramics programme in Ireland with a dedicated staff reflecting the
diversity of contemporary ceramic practice. This, coupled with a superbly equipped light-filled Ceramics
facility allows the programme to cover a range of approaches to this diverse medium.
The programme endeavours to provide students with the necessary subject specific and transferable skills,
vocabulary and contextual knowledge to enter the professional world of ceramic practice, be that through art,
craft or design. This is assisted through numerous initiatives, such as an in-house residency programme and
the Irish Contemporary Ceramics Collection, both of which afford students the opportunity to work alongside
and engage with professionals in practice.
Who is the programme suited to?
Ceramics is a wonderfully flexible material that can accommodate a wide range of approaches. We are looking
for students with enthusiasm for art, for making, for materials, problem solving, and for the exploration of
aesthetics and culture through this amazing material.
Entry Requirements:
