What is the programme about?<br />

This programme is a one year add-on degree programme designed for students who wish to build on previous<br />

learning. It is both a qualification in its own right and a stepping stone to the Level 8 (Honours) Degree in<br />

Accounting & Finance. It is designed for students who wish to pursue careers in professional accountancy,<br />

finance, management, banking and the financial services industry. It offers students a contemporary approach<br />

to accounting and finance, focusing on the exploration of key practical and theoretical issues in accounting,<br />

auditing, management accounting, taxation, company law and people management. It also allows students to<br />

develop highly desirable transferable skills including analytical thinking and problem-solving skills as well<br />

enabling you to think logically and quantitatively.<br />

This degree programme is both professionally and managerially oriented and is recognised by leading<br />

professional accountancy bodies including: CAI, ACCA, CIMA, CPA and IIPA.<br />

Who is the programme suited to?<br />

This programme is primarily designed for those students who have a previous qualification in Accounting and<br />

Finance, such as the Higher Certificate in Business in Accounting and Finance (Level 6) and/or other equivalent<br />

qualifications to a Higher Certificate (Level 6) with appropriate pre-requisite subjects. Holders of qualifications<br />

in accounting such as IATI and CAT (ACCA) may also be considered for entry to this programme.<br />

Modules<br />

Financial Accounting, Management Accounting and Operations Research, Taxation, Company Law, Auditing<br />

and Forensic Accounting, People Management Theory and Practice.<br />

What can I do after the programme?<br />

Our graduates often choose to join an accountancy firm or large company to complete their accountancy<br />

training, while others use their expertise within financial services or branch out into more general management<br />

roles. If you wish to widen your focus to industry and commerce in areas such as banking, insurance and<br />

funds management this relevant and practical degree will put you to the forefront re. employability.<br />

Graduates will also have the opportunity to immediately progress to the Level 8 honours degree programme in<br />

Accounting and Finance offered at <strong>LIT</strong> (Moylish). Graduates, may, alternatively choose to pursue Professional<br />

Accountancy examinations. The list of exemptions is reviewed annually by the professional accountancy<br />

bodies and is subject to change, due to ongoing revisions to their professional syllabi. We seek to continue to<br />

secure existing or corresponding exemptions but this cannot be guaranteed. You are therefore advised to refer<br />

regularly to the relevant professional accountancy body's website and to note that exemptions are awarded at<br />

their discretion.<br />
