Certificate subjects, including<br />

Mathematics and English or Irish.<br />

Foundation Level Mathematics at grade<br />

F2 or higher is acceptable as meeting the<br />

Mathematics requirement for this<br />

programme.<br />

What is the programme about?<br />

This programme has been designed for people with a passion for sport who would like to work in an exciting,<br />

dynamic and global industry. Learn about working with athletes and training for performance and health.<br />

Develop your leadership skills and gain an understanding of governance and sports development, marketing,<br />

sponsorship, finance, law, running events, economics, public relations and human resource management.<br />

Develop your network of contacts through our professional links with various Sports Partnerships, the GAA,<br />

Camogie Association, FAI, Limerick FC, Munster Rugby, Thomond Park stadium, the Irish Sports Council and<br />

Coaching Ireland. Take the opportunity to travel during your placement while working or studying in Ireland or<br />

overseas. Play sport and make new friends. Whatever your ambitions in sport, Business Studies with Sports<br />

Management in <strong>LIT</strong> can help you achieve them.<br />

Who is the programme suited to?<br />

The programme will suit anyone with a passionate interest in sport and a flair for business and management.<br />

You don’t need to be an elite athlete; you just need a positive attitude, a willingness to work hard and the<br />

determination to succeed.<br />

Year 1: Sports Law & Administration, Communications & Information Technology, Sport & Community<br />

Development, Sports Leadership, Functional Anatomy, Training for Sport and Physical Fitness, Principles of<br />

Accounting, Management & Marketing Fundamentals.<br />

Year 2: Decision Making Techniques & Applications, Principles of Economics for Sports Management,<br />

Digital Media & E-Commerce, Sports Event Operations (Common), Marketing Principles, Coaching Practice<br />

& Application.<br />

Year 3: Commercial Sports Management, Health Promotion – Nutrition & Exercise, Sport Public Relations<br />

and Communication, Placement (600 hours).<br />

Year 4: Financial Planning, Human Resource Management for Sports, Sports Marketing Management,<br />

Entrepreneurship and Business Planning, Research Thesis, Sports Performance Management, Strategic<br />

Management.<br />

What can I do after the programme?<br />

Graduates can expect to find work in a broad range of areas. Many continue in postgraduate education while<br />

others go on to find employment with the National Governing Bodies, Local Sports Partnerships, community<br />

and voluntary organisations, commercial gyms and leisure centres, TV and media companies, event<br />

management companies, professional clubs, and sports agencies.<br />

The skills and knowledge gained will also be highly applicable to companies outside of the sports sector.<br />
