Fashion and Textiles for
Product and Costume
Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Design
What is the programme about?
This is a unique Level 8 programme in Ireland that provides an exciting opportunity for individuals who wish
to immerse themselves in the world of fashion and textile design. This BA is a four year programme comprised
of Stage 1, 2, 3 and 4 in Design. There is also an approved Level 6 Higher Certificate in Design in Fashion and
Textiles for Product and Costume running in parallel to the Level 8 programme which offers Level 6 students
the option to progress to Year 3 and 4.
The programme offers students the opportunity of training in areas specific to fashion and textiles design for
product and costume design where there is a specific intention to focus on developing design flexibility,
exploring how the skills and experience gained in the areas of the broad remit of Fashion and Textiles for
Product and Costume can be utilised in a variety of specialisations and activities. This programme also offers
students the exciting prospect to work on live, collaborative projects and a work placement within industry.
Modules
Year 1: Students will be introduced to the working methodologies and vocabulary related to the use and
application of Fashion and Textile for Product and Costume design. Projects are focused on exploring the
importance of obtaining primary research and determining the appropriate process of design development.
their particular pathway.
to their particular area of practice, preparing portfolios for work placement during the second semester of
this year. (Erasmus funding is available) Students are expected to expand and enhance their skillset in areas
that are pertinent to them and their individual pathway development and design exploration in the areas
pertinent to fashion and textiles for product or costume design.
Year 4: Students will research and design a body of work in response to a self-initiated and self-directed
