Most common amines
pH controlling amines and are highly volatile.
They evaporate and travel along with boiler
steam neutralizing carbonic acid as the steam
condenses back into water.
Temperature and psi can affect when various
types of amines re-condense. These properties
are applied in condensate line distance.
Morpholine (short range)
Diethyl aminoethanol (DEAE) (medium range)
Cyclohexylamine (long range)
Injection quill: generally
directly into steam line
Filming Amines
Filming amines are not always soluble in
water, and therefore, should always be
injected directly into steam lines.
Neutralizing amines can be injected into feed
water, however, during blowdowns, product is
lost. Direct steam line injection is more common.
For food production facilities and live
steam applications, non-toxic filming
amines travel along with boiler steam
forming a thin protective waterproof
layer on the metal surface, repelling the
acidic condensate.
Inserting and monitoring corrosion coupons
directly into condensate lines can be helpful in
chemical distribution troubleshooting.
